How did Laura Kaye know to release a new book, first in a new series, on my birthday?  It’s the best birthday gift EVER!  I cannot get enough of Laura’s heroes.  Sexy, tattooed, ex-military men with soft hearts that they don’t want to reveal to the outside world? AND off the charts sexy-time?  Happy friggin’ birthday to me!

“Hard As It Gets” is the story of Nick.  He’s working through his less than honorable discharge from the military and his own issues when Becca walks into Hard Ink Tattoos.  Becca’s brother Charlie has gone missing and he left her one cryptic message telling her to find Nick at the Tattoo shop.  Becca goes to enlist Nick’s help in finding her brother, and he reluctantly becomes entangled in her search for Charlie.

Oh holy hotness. I am NEVER disappointed in Laura Kaye’s heroes.  She is one of the few authors that can pull off the alpha male character; he manages to be controlling and bossy but never veers into douchbag territory.  As you know peeps, this is a thin line.  He is commanding, sexy, tattooed and the chemistry between he and Becca is incredible. 

Yet another thing that Laura Kaye excels at is the chemistry and tension between her characters.  “Hearts in Darkness” (shameless plug!) is one of my favorite stories of hers, and just like with that book, she manages in a short amount of time to create incredible tension and chemistry between the characters.  The way she builds the characters makes them, and their actions, believable, and that’s key for any story that is done well. 

This book basically has it all: sex, danger, sex, tattooed Alpha males, sex, strong heroines, sex and mystery.  Did I mention sex?  As the resident smut peddler, I was completely and utterly under the spell of the sex in this book.  Have your husband/boyfriend/partner/BOB ready, because yes…it’s that good.  4.5 stars from me!  My husband thanks you, Laura.
